Kite Making, One of Beijing Traditional Handicraft

The kite originated in the Spring and Autumn Period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty in China, and has been in existence for more than 2000 years. Here are five steps for making a kite. Firstly, polishing the bamboo canes. Secondly, bending the kite skeleton. It is better to wet the bamboo canes with water in order to prevent them from being burnt. Thirdly, tying the kite skeleton with cotton thread and cut off the extra thread. Fourthly, making the skeleton symmetrical, pasting the paper and wraping the skeleton with the paper on the edge of it so that it will stick more firmly. And Finally, mixing the gouache with a brush and paint as you like.
